De vento em popa: the 1st newsletter of PELD Oeste do Pará

Closing the first year of a new cycle, POPA is launching a newsletter highlighting the main moments of 2025, featuring experiences from students, professors, and collaborators who are part of this network. The purpose of “De vento em POPA” is to make the project’s progress public so far. It also serves as a space for students, professors, and scholarship holders to share behind-the-scenes aspects of the research: the challenges faced in the field, results already achieved, existing infrastructure and how it is maintained, always taking into account the commitment to the communities of the Alter do Chão Environmental Protection Area (APA Alter do Chão) and the Tapajós National Forest (FLONA do Tapajós).

In addition, we present recent releases such as scientific articles, posters, books on local biodiversity, among others. We also bring a brand-new initiative, fresh out of the oven: our first season of audio summaries of scientific articles, released on streaming platforms in podcast format. This initiative aims to translate scientific research into more accessible content for the general public.

The production of this document involved the efforts of five undergraduate and graduate students, four Technical Support scholarship holders, one researcher, and the project coordinator. However, the POPA team is much larger, and it was thanks to the collective effort of many hands that we were able to carry out this first year. All actions were implemented through partnerships among POPA, the community, government, and civil society. For this reason, we are deeply grateful to everyone who is part of this network.
