VII Biology Week
From September 2 to 5, PELD Oeste do Pará participated in the events of the 7th Biology Week. The event was organized by the Academic Center for Biological Sciences (CABIO), the Institute of Water Sciences and Technologies (ICTA), and the Federal University of Western Pará; it received support from ICMBIO, Sapopema, and PELD POPA.
As part of the program, a lecture was given by the program coordinator, Prof. Dr. Rodrigo Fadini, about the program, its history, activities, and products developed. Copies of the book “Biodiversity in the Tapajós National Forest and the Tapajós-Arapiuns Extractive Reserve” and the “Illustrated Guide to Mammals of the Tapajós National Forest and the Alter do Chão Environmental Protection Area” were raffled among the participants.

Another highlight was the theoretical and practical workshop “Animal Tracks and Footprints”, taught Emiliano Fogliatti. During the activity, participants learned how to make plaster casts of animal footprints, a field method used to record and identify animals based on their tracks and other signs of their presence. Guides were also distributed to participants.

To conclude the program, the workshop “Trail at Serra Piroca” was held with Pedro Salomão, Emiliano Fogliatti and Arlison Castro. The activity focused on the Amazonian savannas of the Alter do Chão Environmental Protection Area, addressing the characteristics of this environment and its biodiversity, while also providing participants with direct contact with the landscape.
